I got this idea from my friend Tori and her pics of baby Bergen and I love it! So today I decided to start tracking Emmett’s growth in comparison to his teddy bear.

2 weeks

My Buddy Bear is 2 weeks old! This time has been an adjustment for our little family.  We have had our ups & downs, thankfully more ups. We appreciate all the helping hands from friends and family. Everyone has been so enthusiastic and excited to meet little Emmett! It has been fun to show him off. He is a good boy, but we are both still learning and get frustrated with each other occasionally. Tomorrow we go to the pediatrician for a check-up and circumcision, wish us luck!! (PS He’s not really that orange-looking, it’s just the photo)

We had a fun Halloween hanging out with the Bells and their new baby River, who is 2 days older than Emmett. I love their little costumes! River is a mouse and Emmett a tiger. I didn’t get any pics of my lil Tiger alone, so I’ll have to put him back in it and pretend it’s Halloween again. It will be fun watching these 2 grow up together! 

Grandma Patty got Emmet this cute Halloween outfit, so he’s been wearing it this week.

Hi everyone! I’m finally getting around to blogging. Thanks to Pitt for the amazing post-it still makes me cry when I read it! Pitt has been amazing this week; helpful and happy, making me laugh until it hurts (and it does!), helping me cope, and most of all loving his son. He has work off this week, so we just get to practice being a new little family for the next couple of days.

So, here’s “the story.” Everyone has a labor story and so I guess I’ll tell mine. The day that my mom posted had been a pretty rough 24 hours. All day last Tuesday (the due date) I was having contractions. I didn’t know what to expect, obviously, but they were different than anything I had felt before. They kept coming despite resting or being active and they were consistent-every 5 minutes. So I called Pitt and he came home from work at about 3. Well, we waited and waited, I called the hospital for advice and then we waited some more. The contractions were still every 5 minutes. So we decided to go to the hospital. We got checked in and on the monitor, but they sent me home to wait some more because I wasn’t ready yet and neither was our little boy, I guess. Well, that was VERY discouraging! I was so upset. We went and walked around Smith’s Marketplace and got some frozen yogurt. By this time, the contractions were totally dying off and they didn’t hurt. We went home and tried to go to bed. But about every 45 minutes a painful contraction would wake me up, so I was up all that night and restless and upset and confused! The next morning I talked/cried to my mom and dad on the phone because the contractions had stopped. I was so frustrated, I just wanted to have this baby!! Pitt and I went on a long walk, I took a nap and went about my business around the house waiting to go for my Dr’s appointment at 3:30. Well, about 1 pm I had a contraction…and it hurt! Well, I didn’t want to get my hopes up, so I ignored it. Soon after I had another…and it hurt! The next one brought me to my knees! So then I told Pitt and we started timing. After about 10 minutes of timing, they were 3 minutes apart and PAINFUL!! I couldn’t sit still, couldn’t talk, breathe UGG! Needless to say, we canceled my appointment and headed for the hospital. It was just like the movies! Rushing our things into the car, speeding down the street, I was gripping the door handle and trying to breathe through the pain. I remember thinking, “If this isn’t labor, I don’t want to know what is!” We valeted the car and limped through the busy lobby at University Hospital-I’m sure everyone could tell why we were there. It was 3 pm, the same lady that checked us in the night before was there again and she let us through without stopping. Well, there were no rooms available except a recovery room, so they admitted me there. They checked and I was a 5. What a relief! I got to stay at the hospital this time, and get an epidural. Within an hour (of painful contractions every 2-3 minutes) I got the epidural. Wow, that was a good choice! It was nice to be able to visit with my nurse and be comfortable while watching the monitor go crazy with contractions and not feel a thing. Then I progressed nicely, they broke my water and I started pushing at 7:45 pm, then Emmett was born at 8:01 pm. That was fast! It was such an unbelievable experience. Suddenly, I had a baby in my arms, crying and wanting me to keep him warm. He is healthy and happy and hasn’t left our sight.

We feel so blessed to have a beautiful, healthy baby. We went to the pediatrician yesterday. He weighs 7lbs 9 oz now. He is eating great and pooping like a champ! The parenting aspect for Pitt and I has been fun. It’s surprising to me how fast we have gotten to know his cries. There’s one for food, one for gas and one for attention. I do the food, Pitt does the gas-I put it in him, Pitt gets it out. Ha ha!  He’s just so sweet and cute. No matter how much we say it, it never gets old. I am not the blogging one of the family but while Becky and Emmett take a super well deserved nap I thought I would dump a few photos for everyone to look at.

I have to say that seeing him for the first time was probably the most PURE joy I have ever felt. Better than skiing, kayaking, climbing, surfing or the combination of the them all. That is a big statement for me.  I never thought love would be so instantaneous!  All I want to do is watch him, teach him, learn from him and just be his best friend.

You know the feeling you get when you meet a new friend or a personal hero of yours. That feeling that you don’t ever want to go home. Or that you want to stay up all night telling stories or causing some mischief. You just don’t want the moment to end. Well that is what life is like with Emmett.

As hard as it may be, My favorite part of fatherhood so far has been getting up in the middle of the night, Picking up a crying Emmett and holding him to my chest. It is like my heart beat or the rhythm of my breath quickly calms him down and we just sit in the dark together, I feel like at that moment I could tell him everything on my mind.  Whether he understands or not does not matter as long as we are bonding, I am happy to sit there all night. What can I say he is such a cool dude.

The words on the poster say, “This Woman Deserves a Party!” Now I wish we could be announcing that Becky has had her baby, but not quite yet. I guess the baby isn’t ready to make his appearance. He’s really quite comfortable right where he is! Maybe he can see that Becky is one of those cute pregnant girls (she looks a lot like the girl in the poster), so what’s the hurry! Maybe he knows that once he arrives he’ll have to learn to ski or kayak, so he wants to relax for a few more days.

Good luck Becky – hang in there. We’re all pushing for you. Oh, maybe not that exactly, but we’re all excited and nervous, and we’re sure cheering for you. And good luck Pitt – we know you’re anxious too. Let’s get this party started!”

Many of you have probably noticed Pitt’s “Connie” belt. He’s had it for a couple years, it’s his favorite. It was his DI treasure! He sports many different belt buckles with it; Ones with sparkles, polished rocks, snowcats. It’s just his style and I love it. Well, we finally retired the “Connie” belt for his very own personalized leather belt. Check it out. I got it for him to celebrate daddy-hood and all that.  He loves it!

I love to laugh, who doesn’t? I miss those times late at night with my girlfriends where you would get a sore tummy from laughing so hard. We used to lay our heads on each others’ stomachs and start laughing, and then we couldn’t stop! I also love hearing others laugh, especially patients. It always makes me smile. Sometimes it is a goal of mine to make my patients laugh. It can take some effort, but it’s worth it. Laughter is the best medicine-they say.

Lately we have been surrounded by new babies. I feel like every time we go to Logan, there is a new baby to visit! It all started with Sofie, 1st daughter of my cousin Craig and his wife Tiffany. She is 2 months old and a very sweet and happy baby. Love that tutu!!

Next my cousin Derek had his first child, Avrie. He and Nikki welcomed her 6 weeks ago. She is still trying to figure out when it’s day and when it’s night…and oh yeah, did I mention she is beautiful!

Here’s my BFF Mindy and her 3 week old baby Cash Daniel. He is a tiny little thing, born at 6 1/2 lbs. I can’t get enough of his cute little face!

And then just 2 weeks ago our good friends Spencer and Andee had their first, Mason. He is the perfect picture of a baby; soft hair, chubby cheeks and always has the hiccups.

So, as you can see we have a lot of babies to hang out with. I’ve noticed that since the kiddos have been born we have all kept in touch a little bit better. I guess it’s because we all feel like we’re in the same boat, and will be for the rest of eternity! Diaperland…here we come (and are, right guys!?) It will be fun to watch our kids grow up together, can’t wait!

We got our nursery put together…finally! We have a carseat…finally! Now, all we need’s a baby!

20 days to go! Yikes!

The big blank white space will be filled with some artwork. We’ve been looking at some prints by Heather Brown. We saw her stuff at an art fair when we lived in Hawaii. I kept her card and buried it out of the desk drawer the other day.  I love her style.

Found this dresser/changing table on KSL.com for one hundred bucks! Now we have it and it’s full, I don’t know what we would have done without it.

This is my favorite wall right now. The cool wire photo holder is from Ikea. I’ve had it probably for a year, but never found the right spot for it. I think we’ll hang our baby’s name-still to be determined- from the hooks. (One of my goals during maternity leave is to work on learning a little bit about Photoshop. If I knew how to do that now you would see the letters for “C-A-E-S-A-R” hanging from those hooks)

Love the crib and cute, cute bedding set! Love the teddy bear, pillow and blanket too! Looks pretty cozy, doesn’t it?
